Connect Orbit to Claude or ChatGPT

Orbit for Substack connects Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI app to Orbit. Ask about your Substack subscribers, readers, comments and DMs, who to follow up with, and which Notes and posts bring new subscribers. Answers link back to Substack.

Before you connect

  • An Orbit account.
  • The Orbit Chrome extension, signed in. It fills Orbit from your Substack as you use it, so the connector has something to read. See getting started.
  • Direct messages are included only if you turn them on in the extension. They are off by default.

Connect

Server URL: https://seeyourorbit.com/api/mcp

Claude

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector and paste the URL.
  3. Sign in with Google and approve. Claude handles the rest.

ChatGPT (use the website)

  1. On chatgpt.com, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open Plugins in the sidebar, then the Add button at the top right.
  3. Choose Add custom MCP server. Not Create plugin — that opens a different tool.
  4. Name it Orbit and paste the URL as the Server URL.
  5. Set authentication to OAuth.
  6. Accept the custom-server warning, choose Create, then sign in with Google and approve.
  7. Start a new chat — a conversation opened before connecting can see Orbit but not use it.
  8. Mention Orbit in your message.

Another AI app that supports remote MCP connectors with OAuth works the same way: add the server URL and sign in.

Things to ask

  • Who should I talk to today?
  • Who have I drifted away from lately?
  • Which of my Notes brought in new subscribers?
  • What did @someone and I last talk about?
  • Who reads my essays but has never talked to me?

What it can read

Your people and your conversations with them, your notes and essays and their stats, your subscribers, the writers you follow, your private notes and tags, and your direct messages if you turned them on.

  • Orbit overview
  • List people
  • Look up a person
  • List your tags
  • Today's Daily Five
  • People worth a follow-up
  • People worth meeting
  • Who is moving closer or drifting
  • List your worlds
  • Read your notes and their stats
  • Notes that brought subscribers
  • Read your essays and their stats
  • Search your writing, conversations and DMs
  • Search your private notes on people
  • Subscriber overview
  • Who reads your essays
  • Kind words said to you
  • Replies waiting on you
  • DM queue
  • Who you follow and subscribe to
  • What's working in your notes
  • Find people for a topic

What it can change, when you ask

Every change stays inside your Orbit account. Nothing is posted, sent, or shown to anyone else. The connector makes a change only when you ask for it or agree to it.

  • Add a private note about a person
  • Edit a private note about a person
  • Tag or untag a person
  • Hide or unhide a person
  • Set DM status
  • Clear replies from your queue

What it never does

  • It never posts, comments, likes, or sends a message on Substack. It has no tool that can.
  • It cannot delete a private note. You remove one in Orbit.
  • It never sees your conversation with the AI app, only the requests the app makes to Orbit.

Privacy

Orbit records which app made a request and which tool it used, never what you asked or what came back. What the app does with the data it reads is covered by that app’s own privacy policy. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Disconnect

In Orbit, open Settings, then Claude and ChatGPT, and choose Disconnect. Access ends at once. You can also remove the connector in the AI app’s own settings.

If something goes wrong

It says my Orbit connection needs to be reconnected.

Open the connector settings in your AI app and reconnect Orbit. You sign in again, and nothing in Orbit is lost.
